Hume launches competition to teach kids about money

There are five laptop computers to be won in Hume Building Society’s all new Clancy Koala Competition starting
on Monday 12th September.

The competition will be officially launched to over 1,000 children and parents across 3 separate screenings of The Smurfs
movie on 5th, 12th and 19th October with all sessions commencing at 6.00pm at the Regent Cinemas, Albury.

For a chance to win, children simply need to collect all 12 Hume swap cards. A swap card is given when money is
banked into a Hume Clancy Koala account through school banking or at any Hume branch. Children are encouraged
to swap their cards with friends and family to collect the set.

Following the success of a 20% increase in regular savings last year, Hume plans to make the competition an annual
event. This year, Hume has developed an interactive website for children www.humebuild.com.au/swapcards where
they can play games and learn about money.

“Hume is committed to teaching financial life skills to help children become confident, informed consumers in their
work and personal lives. The feedback and enthusiasm we have received from schools and parents has been
overwhelming. It’s great to see students enthusiastic about understanding the value and responsibilities of money”
explained Mr. Andrew Saxby, CEO of Hume Building Society.

The competition also encourages parents to be proactive in teaching their children about money. “Our children were
extremely excited about last year’s competition. It was a great way to make talking about banking fun. They have learnt
about interest on their account and actively watched this every month” said Ms. Smart, parent.

In 2010, Hume was recognised nationally by Abacus (the industry board representing mutuals) for its commitment to
improving financial literacy in the region with the presentation of the 2010 Abacus Industry Award for Community.

Hume works closely with schools to provide essential financial education. Hume staff regularly present to classes,
teaching hundreds of students about the importance of budgeting and saving.  Currently there are over 2,400 students
and 33 schools participating in the program.

Hume also regularly hosts seminars for adults on a variety of topics, including education bonds, investing, retirement
and life insurance.
