Hume does not charge any fees to participate in Hume’s Value Program. However, the Australian Competition Consumer Commission (ACCC) requires participating businesses to pay a $100 notification fee in order to obtain third line forcing
immunity.

Third line forcing is a specific form of exclusive dealing prohibited by the Competition and Consumer Act. One form of third line forcing is where a discount is refused to a customer because the customer has not acquired goods or services from a
third party. For example, it might be considered a contravention of the third line forcing provisions if a fitness centre refuses to offer a discount to a person unless the person is a member of a particular health insurance fund.

The Competition and Consumer Act has a process where businesses can notify conduct that might be third line forcing and be granted immunity from prosecution 14 days after the date of notification. This process gives businesses participating in
exclusive discount schemes or loyalty programs peace of mind that they will not be at risk of prosecution for third line forcing. The penalties for third line forcing are severe.

While it is the businesses who notify the conduct to the ACCC, Hume can do this on behalf of the businesses participating in the program, saving you administrative time and effort. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission charges a
notification fee of $100 per business, and they will not waive or reduce that fee. Hume is not charging participating businesses for advertising on its website, or for the administrative cost in notifying the ACCC, however, we are asking that businesses meet the ACCC $100 notification fee. On the application form there is a tick box which says that your business consents to Hume making the notification to the ACCC and also consents to Hume debiting the $100 to your account.

We recommend you read the Terms and conditions before proceeding. Terms and conditions are available at the above link or within Hume branches.
