Travel Tips

Money

Take more than one payment mechanism - some local cash, travellers cheques or a Cash Passport Card, and a credit or debit card. That way, if you have difficulty with any of your products (e.g. your credit card is not accepted, or the magnetic stripe gets damaged), you will have an alternative.

If your destination has a good ATM network, take most of your travel funds on a Cash Passport Card; if not, travellers cheques are better. Certain countries like Bali and Fiji do not have a lot of ATMs, so travellers cheques may be better.

Get your foreign exchange before you leave home - exchange rates at home are usually better than overseas.

Insurance

Before you travel, check that your level of travel insurance cover is adequate for your destination and planned activities.

Photocopy all travel documents, including your airline tickets, passports, hotel vouchers, traveller's cheques, and your travel insurance policy and assistance contact numbers and leave these with someone trustworthy at home.

Advise the relevant authority immediately if you lose any luggage. You will be required to obtain a police report within 24 hours of the loss to submit with supporting receipts, photos, etc. Written confirmation of the incident should be obtained from the airlines or other transport providers if luggage has gone missing while in their care.

Ensure that you have had the appropriate vaccinations for the countries you intend to visit (and that they are still current).
