Telstra Failure Causes Outage of Outlying Hume Branches

Twice this week many of Hume’s branches and ATMs have been unable to operate at full capacity due to outages caused by Telstra failures.
“It is really disappointing,” said Andrew Saxby, CEO Hume Building Society. “We are a small player, but we provide banking to almost 50% of the local region – that is a lot of inconvenience for a lot of people.”
Unfortunately, while Hume has back up systems in place, these have also been disrupted by unrelated Telstra failures. “The issue that occurred earlier this week means we have been running on our back up system much of the week, however today that was also brought down, apparently for a completely unrelated reason.” explained Mr Saxby.
“It is unfortunate and Telstra are working very hard to fix the problem.” said Mr Saxby. “We also have people at our Head Office working hard to support our branches and ensure the impact on members is minimised.”
Hume wishes to apologise to any member who has been impacted.
