Hume Building Society has secured Scott Pape to speak to over 350 secondary and tertiary students from Wangaratta on the importance of Financial Literacy.
Mr Pape, better known as “The Barefoot Investor”, is passionate about teaching Australia’s Youth about the importance of Financial Literacy. Formally with Macquarie Bank, Mr Pape is now one of Australia’s leading experts on Financial Literacy with a nationally syndicated weekly column in all major Newscorp Ltd papers and host of a weekly personal finance show on CNBC, with appearances on Channel Nine’s The Money Show, What’s Good For You, and The Nest on SBS. He is also a radio commentator for Triple M, and a regular contributor to ABC radio. Mr Pape is the author of the best selling book The Barefoot Investor, a book which has been rewritten, translated and released internationally.
Scott will present “School Reunion”, an entertaining play which explores the different avenues people take when considering financial decisions. The presentation gives Wangaratta High School an opportunity to provide financial literacy to senior students from an inspiring and exciting speaker.
“We were thrilled Hume offered to have Scott visit the school and spend time with students. This is a great opportunity for us to engage students by teaching them good money habits,” said Ms. Heather Sarau Principal of Wangaratta High.
Hume is dedicated to improving financial literacy and regularly spends time speaking to schools and running seminars for community. The costs of financial illiteracy can be huge, $800m in losses to consumers over the last three years*.
“Hume is continually looking at how to engage youth with financial literacy. By securing Scott Pape, we have been able to provide this at no cost to the schools.” said Andrew Saxby CEO of Hume Building Society.
“We received an overwhelming response from schools and teachers during his visit to Albury in August 2008; we are excited to have secured Scott for the second time” said Mr. Saxby.
“We will also be hosting a morning tea in Albury for school principals and representatives to spend time with Scott to discuss the financial issues facing youth today and explore how Hume can work with schools to ensure youth leave school better prepared.” said Mr. Saxby.
Scott will be talking to local year 11, 12 and tertiary students at the Wangaratta High School Performing Arts Theatre at 2.00pm on Tuesday 23 March.
