Hume donates $146,000 to the community

Hume Building Society has donated $146,000 to more than 140 community groups, charities and local events on the border in the last 11 months through sponsorships, donations and in kind support.

Hume CEO Andrew Saxby said today the support highlights Hume’s confidence in its business as it continues to support its towns and communities in which it operates.

“As a mutual, we are not driven by shareholder demand and whenever possible we will support the community that supports us. Members also receive benefits through low fees and competitive products,” he said.

“Hume will continue to develop ways to support the community through staff involvement, sponsorships and donations throughout the district.”

Staff involvement is encouraged by Hume with many staff volunteering for a range of different charities and programs including Club Red (blood donations), planting trees with Parklands Victoria, Meals on Wheels, Telecross and community visits for the Department of Health and Aging.

In recent months Hume raised nearly $40k in community donations to the Red Cross through its branch network and more than 160 cookbooks were donated to help those devastated by the Black Saturday bushfires.

Hume is also supporting the Regional Business Development Network who is providing local Bush Fire Recovery Events to help those in the Barwidgee Creek area by offering support based on their skills such as sewing quilts for Creative Women’s Day to be held later this month.

Hume offers its time to the development of online payment systems to local charities and clubs, including the upcoming Border Ball which raises valuable funds for Country Hope. A similar system was developed for the Nail Can Hill Run, which proved to be an essential resource to the organising committee.
