Hume Building Society operates through massive power outage

The power outage that impacted much of central Albury today did not impact Hume Building Society, thanks to a generator installed in 1999 in preparation for Y2K.
The generator, which is able to power the entire operations at the Olive Street Head Office, is tested weekly to ensure it will work when needed.
“Our generator is auto sensing, which means when we lost power today, it automatically kicked in after just 3 seconds.” said Andrew Saxby, CEO Hume Building Society. “It can run for 24 hours without requiring a fuel top up, however just in case the outage lasts longer we do have our own secure fuel source.”
“It is important to us that members can continue to bank with us, despite power outages and other interruptions” explained Mr Saxby. “Today our members can bank with us via any channel.”
Local retailers were asking Hume Building Society staff if they could take refuge in their branch as their shops became cold and dark without power.
