Direct Charging at foreign ATMs

ATM Direct Charging is an industry-wide change initiated by the Reserve Bank of Australia. It means that from March 2009, if you use an ATM that does not belong to your financial institution, you will see the charge for using that ATM on the screen before you decide whether to proceed with the transaction.

If you decide to accept that fee, it will be separately debited to your account and will be shown on your statement as “ATM Operator fee”.

If you decide not to proceed with the transaction, no fee will be charged.

In addition, no fee will be charged if the transaction is declined.
