ATM Direct Charging Explained

ATM Direct Charging means that if you use another banks ATM you will be charged directly by that bank or ATM owner, rather than Hume. And you will see the ATM owner fee each time you use a foreign ATM.

These changes are in response to the Reserve Bank of Australia’s request that industry increase the transparency of fees charged, thereby increasing competition and potentially reducing fees for cardholders.

The aim is to increase the cardholder’s ability to make more informed choices about their ATM usage.

The charge for using another bank’s ATM is disclosed on the screen before you go ahead with the transaction. You can then choose whether to use the ATM and pay the fee shown, or cancel the transaction and go to another ATM.

With these changes ATM owners can directly charge non-customers for withdrawals and balance enquiries. However, no charge can be made for any transaction that is “declined” or unsuccesful. If you continue with the transaction, the ATM owner will charge their fee to the ATM user directly and immediately.
